Argentine Simson Nagant 1893 revolver .440 (14)
THE SIMSON NAGANTS: Here we have a German Simson 1893 Nagant that is almost an exact copy of the Military Nagant turned out by the Belgian Nagant firm for the Brazilian Navy. The German Suhl Company of Simson manufactured these Nagant patent revolvers as part of a military contract for the Argentine Army. This revolver was chambered for the Argentine Nagant .440 cartridge (11.2 X 22 R mm), which is just a shade longer than the Brazilian .440. All the South American “Nagants” were based on the Belgian Model 1878 Military Nagant. This particular Argentine Nagant was almost certainly re-finished by the military arsenal for later civilian sale – on the left of the action are some difficult-to-see marks that were evidently the previous Argentine military stamps.
